How to play Whale Trail on the Australian Museum Games app

Ready to get on the Whale Trail and learn more about whales? Here's how the game works on your Australian Museum Games app:


Step 1 - Select a whale species or an object

Start by choosing a species or an object from the selection to learn more about it.

There are five whales and one cultural object featured in the Whale Trail game:

  • Great Sperm Whale, Physeter macrocephalus
  • Humpback Whales, Megaptera novaengliae
  • Indo-Pacific Humpaback Dolphin, Sousa chinensis
  • Sei Whale, Balaenoptera borealis
  • Gray's Beaked Whale, Mesoplodon grayi
  • Whalebone club, patu paraoa

Read the fun facts, listen to whale sounds, and test your knowledge to learn more about each whale species.


Step 2 - Look for a label with an image of a whale or an object

The whales featured in Whale Trail game can be activated and be brought to life! Walk around the museum to find them in their specified locations and look for a label with an image of a whale or an object near the object or specimen.

When you've arrived at the location, tap the button to start.


Step 3 - Scan the QR code using your smartphone's camera

Point your smartphone's camera to scan the QR code on the label to activate.

Look up and around the space until you can spot the whale.

Tap on the camera button to snap a picture of the whale and 'Save & Continue' to save your progress on the Whale Trail.


Step 4 - Collect your free whales sticker!

When you have discovered all five whales and one object, a trophy icon will appear on your main Whale Trail screen. Tap on this icon.

You will see a special screen that allows you to redeem free whales sticker sheet.

Activate the whales whenever and wherever you want by scanning the QR code on the sticker.
