Research project: Gastropod microanatomy and 3D reconstruction

Start date:

Museum investigators

An undescribed species of shelled opisthobranch (sea slug) was collected from intertidal habitat around New South Wales. The species is tiny - just 1 mm long, so the microanatomy of this animal was examined using 3D reconstruction. This process involves slicing the animal into hundreds of sections, then using computer graphics to reassemble models of its anatomy.
