This fellowship, generally awarded every two years, was established in 1995 by the late Ms Senta Taft-Hendry in memory of Leo Fleischmann of Galleries Primitif, Woollahra. It is designed to increase knowledge about the arts and material culture of the Pacific Islands through original research on the extensive collections in the Australian Museum from Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia.

Selection Criteria
• Significance of the intellectual contribution to the collection of interest
• Enhancement to the Australian Museum ethnographic collections
• Clear and appropriate budget
• Proven track record of the applicant in the field of study

The maximum amount of the fellowship is $2500 to assist with living costs, travel and research expenses. The award can be held in conjunction with an Australian Museum Collections Fellowship which must be applied for independently in a separate application.

The fellowship is not intended to support research contributing to a higher degree. The selection committee reserves the right not to make an appointment or to make an appointment by invitation.
