Five elongate, flexible and cylindrical, arms which taper distally to a blunt tip. Aboral surface divided by plates, orange.

Distribution:

Inshore, subtropical and temperate areas including Norfolk Island; southern Great Barrier Reef, Capricorn Group, Qld to Shellharbour and Lord Howe Island, NSW; southwest Pacific Ocean. Depth range 0-50 m

Taxonomic information - synonyms and type material:

Ophidiaster confertus Clark, 1916: 53, pl. 15(1-2).
Type data: holotype AM J11, paratype(s) MCZ 2 specimens.
Type locality: Lord Howe Is., Tasman Sea.
