Larvae of Temperate Australian Fishes: laboratory guide for larval fish identification

  • Neira, F. J., Miskiewicz, A. G and Trnski, T. (1998) Larvae of Temperate Australian Fishes: laboratory guide for larval fish identification. University of Western Australia Press. 474 pp.

Prior to the publication of this book, the larval stages of only a small number of temperate Australian fish species were described. These descriptions were dispersed in the literature, which meant they were difficult to locate and the quality of the information was variable. Larvae of Temperate Australian Fishes brings together what is known about fish larvae in the region, providing descriptions of 124 species of marine and freshwater fishes; 93 of these species are described for the first time. The larval fish descriptions on this site are designed to supplement this book.
