String body ornament with pendants on each end. Caledon Bay, Yirrkala Mission.
These cords are made with hand woven string and feathers The bright orange feathers on each end are spun in circular layers by binding the tips of the feathers' quills, beginning at the base of the string and 'glued' with resin. These ornaments (worn by men) can be wound around the top of the head like a band or tied into the hair. These string pieces can also be attached to armbands or baskets for ceremony.
