Karolina Venter from Sydney is a student of Ultimo College, TAFE NSW. Her design is titled ‘Eco-Angler Dress’. Karolina has used a synthetic mesh advertising banner. She has heat moulded it, so that it follows the silhouette of a body. Features that look like fins or teeth were made by slicing back into the dress. The hem of the banner had eyelets, and the fabric around these eyelets has been cut away to create tentacle-like features at the front. Small bells were added, to look like fish eyes. Karolina was inspired by various animals, especially the deep-water tripodfish, the hairy anglerfish and the broad squid – complex-looking animals with various protuberances. Karolina aimed to give an overall sense of their bodies in this mix of design features based on a selection of body parts.
