Ad giz ancestral figure E017497

An ochred ancestral human figure with a palm-stick spear attached. It is made of plant fibre, with a pith head and two shell ears. It is a miniature representation of a Samsep and Geaurem Districts ancestor called Kokuam. It is said to be associated with ancestral rituals and is known as ad giz by the Meriam people. It was collected by John Bruce and presented by Percy G. Black in 1908. Size 21.5x24cm.
