Environmental Management Plan 2013
Lizard Island Research Station on the north end of the Great Barrier Reef was established by the Australian Museum in 1973.
Most of the research station's energy is generated by solar and stored in an array of batteries.

The operation of the LIRS aquarium system, moorings, pipelines and vessels is carried out under permit from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority in accordance with an approved Environmental Management Plan. The current permit is G14/36144.1 and the approved EMP is provided here.
