In 2015, the Australian Museum celebrated the 50th anniversary of Museum in a Box

It has been an exciting year in Outreach at the Australian Museum and the highlight for me was the anniversary of Museum in a Box®.

Museum in a Box® has been running since 1965 and I am proud of its long history. The project has grown to include 30 topics and a wealth of Australian Museum resources to enable schools and community groups to engage with our collection and research. To recognise this milestone we were able to offer free boxes to regional schools as a thank you for all the support over the last 50 years.

In 2015 we loaned 550 boxes across NSW and beyond and participated in amazing events reaching 70,000 students and the community.

Over the last 50 years hundreds of schools, thousands of teachers and over a million students have used Museum in a Box® as a learning and teaching resource.

I feel very lucky to be involved in the program over the last eight years and look forward to the next celebration.
