The Australian Museum in the heart of Sydney has opened a new rooftop dining experience, No. 1 William – Food with a View.

Sydney, October 11, 2016: Sydney has a stunning new venue for casual dining and private events: No.1 William at the Australian Museum (AM), delivering great food with fabulous 180-degree views of the city.

Located on Level 4 of the Australian Museum, No.1 William is now open from 10.00am to 4.30pm seven days a week, offering patrons breakfast, lunch, morning and afternoon tea as they take in sweeping views across the city, Hyde Park, Sydney Harbour and up to the iconic Coca-Cola sign at Kings Cross.

Floor-to-ceiling glass doors open onto an outdoor terrace for alfresco dining in a modern setting with stylish decor that reflects the AM’s ongoing transformation, while paying homage to its rich heritage.

The menu, described as modern Australian casual dining, integrates simple flavours and classic favourites from barramundi to pavlova. Average main meals range from $14 to $32, with a great selection of children’s meals also on offer.

Specials include ‘The AM Lunch’ (two courses plus wine for $40) and ‘Sweet Discoveries’ (savoury and sweet delights matched with the No.1 William Cocktail or a glass of bubbly for $25).

No.1 William is managed exclusively by Create Consultants, whose Group Executive Chef is Keith Jones, formerly of Hilton and Hyatt Hotels.

“Museums and galleries around the world are offering their visitors improved casual dining experiences like the Tate Modern in London,” Kim McKay AO, Director and CEO of the Australian Museum, said.

“It’s the perfect place to catch up with a friend over lunch, share a glass of wine and enjoy the best of Sydney’s skyline. It’s also a wonderful treat for the family on a weekend to visit the AM and enjoy quality modern Australian dining for either brunch, lunch or afternoon tea.”

Anthony Whitehouse, Director of Create Consultants, said his team was proud to partner with the Australian Museum in launching No. 1 William to deliver an exceptional customer experience.

“Our vision is to provide a destination in itself, adding to the already amazing experience on offer at the Australian Museum,” he said.

“We are excited to complete our first stage of our vision and we have some exciting things planned for both international and local guests to make their visit a truly memorable one.”

Visitors are able to access No. 1 William through the AM’s Crystal Hall entrance and take the elevator to the rooftop on Level 4.

Catering for up to 180 seated guests and 200 standing, No. 1 William is available for evening and weekend hire for weddings, special events, corporate functions and more.

Adjacent to No.1 William is the AM’s Harbour View Room & Terrace – a dedicated venue hire space with stunning views, available any time of day.

No. 1 William is fully accessible and requires no admission charge when entering via the Australian Museum.
