The Stout Moray is a shallow-water, inshore reef species, found in the Indo-Pacific including the east, west and northern coasts of Australia.
Standard Common Name
Abbott's Moray, Indo-Pacific Stout Moray, Spotted Moray, White-speckled Moray
The Stout Moray is brown with yellow and black spots. Its colour is darker and there are more spots posteriorly. The tail is edged in white.
The species grows to around 50 cm in length.
It is known from numerous marine locations in the Indo-Pacific. In Australia it occurs from the central coast of Western Australia, around the tropical north of the country and south to the northern coast of New South Wales.
