Profile

The role of Interpretive Officer allows me to interact with visitors to the Museum on a daily basis. As well, working in the “Search & Discover” area gives me the opportunity to help answer enquiries about the Museum’s nature and culture focus that come into this area via visits, phone calls and emails.

At other times I participate in the museum’s educational and holiday programmes. I especially enjoy taking tours of the Museum’s many galleries. My interest in tours allowed me to become involved in the development and writing of the Museum’s first Behind the Scenes Tour for the general public on a regular basis. Being able to work with the Museum’s Collection has been a highlight of my time working at the Australian Museum. I was able to draw on my experiences as a teacher and the tours I wrote in museums overseas, to develop a two hour personal tour covering 11 Collection areas. It has helped me learn more about the work and research done by the Museum’s scientists and how the Collection is used. I enjoy showing tour participants some of the interesting items in the Museum’s Collection.
