Profile

Penny Berents was appointed Head of Natural Science Collections, in 2005 and has extensive experience in collections management and research at the Australian Museum. Penny's museum career of more than 30 years has included all aspects of collections management including database development, commercial projects, collections development and maintenance, public programs, taxonomy and systematics, field work and teaching.

Penny was responsible for collections and database enhancement as a part of the NSW State Biodiversity Strategy and the implementation of the KE EMu database for collection management at the AM. Penny is Chair of the Council of Heads of Australian Faunal Collections (CHAFC) and represents CHAFC on the Management Committee of the Atlas of Living Australia and the Advisory Council of ABRS. Penny has a research interest in crustacean systematics and is working on the systematics of cerapodine amphipods.
