The Science Festival website

The Australian Museum Science Festival (AMSF) aims to bring together different sectors of the scientific community to educate and excite the next generation about science. It achieves this by providing students, teachers and community members the chance to experience hands-on science.

It provides an opportunity for people to talk to scientists from leading institutions, and to discover the future that science can bring through attending expo booths, talks, shows and workshops.

Bookings now open for 2014

Are you a primary school teacher? Then you’ll love our primary school week running from August 12-14. We’re showcasing interactive science workshops such as CSI World, Australia’s 1st Scientists, and Plastic Sea Food to name a few. Some of our favourite shows include Dr Rob Bell from Scope’s Blown Away by Science show, ANSTO’s Fact or Fiction and Liquid Nitrogen Birthday Party. As an added extra, the ever popular live animals in the atrium will give students a hands-on experience with some native Australian wildlife.

On Saturday August 16 we open our doors to the general public for some good old fashioned family fun with our Science Festival Community Day! There is always something to do from experiment stations, balloon animals, face painting to science shows, science workshops, competitions and giveaways. We love nature! So this year we have a strong environmental focus, looking at issue like biosecurity, clean oceans and the importance of gardens at home.

Our high school week runs from August 19-21 and is packed full of science goodness with shows from The Ocean Ambassadors, Three Farm 3D Printing and Great Moments in National Science Week by Dr Karl. We have some mind blowing workshops too such as Forensic Frenzy, Understanding Gravity and Giants of the Past plus many more. Beware, our resident Muttaburrasaurus Winny will be roaming the museum so be on the look out!
