Description

The project aims to document the diversity of camaenid land snails of limestone-associated patches of dry rainforest in the Victoria River District, NT and to scrutinize their systematics. Harbouring a multitude of mostly undescribed and at least partly endangered snail species, these habitats are under threat from human-related disturbances including fire and pastoralism. Using anatomical and molecular data, our goal is to describe all species taxonomically, analyse their phylogenetic relationships and biogeography and assess their abundance, distribution and conservational status. The data collected from this project will augment current conservation management plans for these species and their habitats.
