Movie: Adaptations for foraging

These bees (Leioproctus raymenti, Leioproctus filamentosus) are specialist visitors to Persoonia flowers. Their flat polished faces are of assistance when collecting nectar. The females of both species have spines on their forelegs that are used to rake pollen from the anthers and Leioproctus filamentosus has a set of long hairs attached to the tongue to draw up the nectar by capillary action.
