Hi rling.  You are right!  Thank you for pointing this out.  The spelling of thyrsoideus has been corrected on this page and the Muraenidae list.  I have also informed the person in charge of the Australian Faunal Directory, where it was also listed incorrectly.  I appreciate you taking the time to tell me.

Apparently a common misspelling of "Gymnothorax thyrsoideus". http://marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=399889 I just corrected the same typo in all my photos too :(
