- Alison Wishart
I agree Lynda, "The story's the thing!" - was it Freeman Tilden who said this? This was reinforced for me when I went to the American Association of Museums Conf in Los Angeles recently and the two keynote speakers were not museum luminaries but novelists. They spoke about the power of narrative in museums.
After the conference I travelled to San Francisco and longed for a social history museum (there is none) to tell me the 'story' of San Francisco - I had to try and piece it together for mysef - earthquakes, fires, gold rush, settlement etc. The history is there, but you have to sniff it out in a variety of different museums and monuments, tours and talks.
