Dr Bruce Kaiser (Bruce is the creator behind the portable XRF and has taught at hundreds of collecting institutions around the world) and Colin MacGregor review data taken by the Museums new portable XRF. This sample of metal came from a marine archaeological site provided by another Conservator attending the workshop. As metals from an archaeological excavation sites are often corroded and the surface covered, the XRF can aid us in identifying exactly what kinds of metals are present in the objects composition.
