Image: The Bridge to Langka, Balinese painting E74168
A finely drawn and detailed painting on bark-cloth, probably from the first half of the 19th century. Bark cloth was usually imported from Sulawesi. This is one of only two paintings on bark-cloth in this collection. The colours are local Balinese ochres with imported Chinese black ink and vermillion. Professor Anthony Forge collected this painting from the temple Jero Kapal, in Gelgel, Klungkung District, Bali, and considered it to be one of the best and oldest in his collection. Size 127 x 150cm.
