Image: Stabalizing decorative shield
This rare inlaid shield comes from the Solomon Islands and is made up of woven plant materials with natural resins and shell pieces laid down on top of the plant materials. The woven body of the shield is relatively flexible, where the resin on top is not. This causes cracking in the resin when the plant material underneath bends and flexes. In some areas the resin has fallen off completely. And adhesive is very carefully fed into all the cracks to try and minimize further losses.
