Women’s sewing set containing needles, thread and thimble carved from ivory in the form of a seal (c. 15cm). It was collected in 1913 in north-western or northern Canadian Arctic by Hubert (George) Wilkins, member of the Canadian Arctic Expedition 1913-1916. Wilkins (1888 – 1958) was an Australian polar explorer, ornithologist, pilot, soldier, geographer and photographer.
Canadian Arctic Expedition 1913–1916 was led by Vilhjalmur Stefansson, Canadian Arctic explorer and ornithologist.
