Pura Bale Batur from the outside, with the Bale Kulkul, a special tower built to house the wooden bell - kulkul (a hollow piece of wood with a split in the side) suspended from the rafters. The kulkul is beaten to summon villagers for important meetings or ceremonies. Announcements are also made using the pair of loudspeakers attached to the beams.
