Detail of a bridal bed or chamber hanging, made of silk, damask and cotton with metallic thread embroidery and mirror pieces. It probably was traded from southern China in the 19th century and used in the Palembang district of south Sumatra – for centuries an important centre of maritime trade, Chinese commerce and the home of a prosperous Peranakan community.
