The family Hispidoberycidae contains only one species, Hispidoberyx ambagiosus (Kotlyar, 1981).  The species lives in the Eastern Indian and Western Pacific Oceans. Very few specimens exist in ichthyology collections worldwide.  This fish was kindly donated by the Hokkaido University Museum.
