Headbands were worn on the forehead and tied at the back of the head. This one was collected in the Goroka area of Papua New Guinea's Eastern Highlands and donated to the Museum in 1965.
Description: headband of yellow plant fibre and 30 Flower Chafer Beetles (cetoniiae); both edges of headband comprise a plaited band of plant fibre to which are attached 20 short, vertical sticks that are inserted through the beetles; beetles also secured by thin strips of natural fibre wound around the beetle and stick in a cross design; plant fibre cord at both ends.
