The Australian Museum database has no records of the species occurring in the waters of mainland New South Wales. The southern extremity of the 'official distribution' of this species is the Capricorn Group in southern Queensland. This image may be the first time the species has been recorded from mainland New South Wales (records are known from Lord Howe Island).
