Image: Baby rattle - E081010 #1
A rattle made from 29 shells strung on plastic string. The original string, a two-ply 'galawun' (Ficus virens) broke, and the shells were restrung by Betty Meehan, who purchased the work in 1986 from Ms Betty Ngurraba Ngurraba at Ngalijibama, Northern Territory. The shells were collected from debris on a beach, and holes for stringing the shells were made with the pointed end of a steel knife.
