Ad giz ancestral figure E17499

An ochred, ancestral human figure, holding a club and palm-stick spear (detached.) It is made of plant fibre with a pith head and one turtle-shell ear. It is a miniature representation of a Piebre District ancestor called Palai. It is said to be associated with ancestral rituals and is known as ad giz by the Meriam people. It was collected by John Bruce and presented to the Museum by Percy G. Black in 1908. Size: 21.7x23cm.
