X-ray of a mounted bird specimen.

This x-ray image shows the internal wire armature in a mounted bird specimen from the Lord Howe Island diorama. During conservation treatment, a metal spike was found projecting from the chest. X-rays showed the spike was in fact part of the wire armature supporting the wing. The spike can be seen protruding from the chest area. It's a bit spooky but we love the googly eyes!
