Image: Topeng mask
Javanese dance masks, topeng, come in a wide variety of characters and character 'types'. Colour symbolism is used to denote rank, personality or spiritual status. For example, gold for very refined nobility, white for spiritual purity, or red for fierceness. This mask represents Hanoman, the white monkey hero of the Ramayana.
