The Kerta Gosa, Hall of Justice

The Kerta Gosa, Hall of Justice, located in the centre of the town of Semarapura, Klungkung, East Bali. This pavilion was part of the former Semarapura palace, home to the highest ruler of Bali. The original palace was destroyed by the Dutch in 1908. The Kerta Gosa is a popular tourist destination because of the painted panels which decorate the ceilings of the pavilions. The artists who painted these panels come from the nearby village of Kamasan, an important centre of traditional and contemporary Balinese paintings. It was in Kamasan where Professor Anthony Forge from the Australian National University assembled the collection of Balinese classical paintings now in the Australian Museum.
