The fish was caught on longline at a depth between 25 m and 30 m, during a 121 day swordfish survey run by IEO (Instituto Espanol de Oceanografia, the Spanish Oceanographic institute) from December 2005 until April 2006. The fish was caught in a region of the Indian Ocean near the Maldive Islands.
