Notes

Stimson's Pythons live in western and central Australia. These snakes are found in arid, woodland and rocky areas.

Stimson's Pythons eat small mammals, birds, reptiles and frogs.

Stimson's Pythons can sense the body heat coming off their prey. They flick their tongue to taste the air and use their eyes to find their food.

These pythons grab their prey in their mouth and wrap around it. The snake's body coils squeeze the prey until it suffocates. The prey is swallowed whole.

Birds of prey and large reptiles eat Stimson's Pythons.

Stimson's Pythons move in a side-to-side swimming motion.

They lay five to nineteen eggs each breeding season. Young Stimson's Pythons look after themselves.

Stimson's Pythons are sometimes known as Large-blotched Pythons. They have a pattern of large reddish-brown blotches along their body.
