Hurley arrived at Inauaia at the start of a singing competition between local clans and those of a neighbouring village. The contest began on 3 August and was still going strong when Hurley left the next day.The Inauaia men sat around the carved post of their clubhouse, while the visitors sat facing the front of the house, their backs to the camera.
