Shield E047399-005 (back)

This miniature wooden parrying shield is from the Peak Hill region of Central West New South Wales. It is carved from a single piece of medium-brown coloured wood, with a handle in the centre, narrowing to tapered, pointed ends. Above the handle hole is an etched design of opposite facing triangles. The shield is one of eight miniature weapons supposedly made by a local Aboriginal boy from the Bogan River area, Peak Hill. It was donated to the Australian Museum by Mr George Smith.
