Image: Rainforest Christmas Beetle - Stanley Breeden
When glanced at casually this unusual Christmas beetle, Anoplognathus aeneus, appears smooth. Up close it is hairy, pitted and sculptured. To bring out these textures we photographed it by natural light. We found the beetle on the flowers of an Umbrella Tree, Schefflera actinophylla.
