Palaeolithic Portrait: related to E65374

This carving in mammoth ivory is the oldest known portrait of a woman, depicted as having her hair pulled back in a bun. It was found among other bone and ceramic figures at Dolni Vestonice, in the Czech Republic It is about 26,000 years old.  Size: 4.7 x 2.1 x 1.9 cm. The Australian Museum has a cast of this carving, acquired in 1972.
