This neck ornament was acquired by the Museum in 1992. Traditionally, necklaces such as these were status items possessed only by Fijian nobles. In recent times, the sisi can still be seen worn by chiefs during ceremonies and official events.
Description: 27 short, yellow-white sperm whale teeth; most teeth slightly curved, tapered to tip, flattened at butt; threaded on twisted cotton cord with ends tied together to form circlet.
