This side view reconstruction shows some of the distinctive skull features of Neanderthals including the long rounded brain case, bulge at the back of the skull (occipital bun), depression (the suprainiac fossa) for the attachment of strong neck muscles, relatively flat and receding forehead, and projecting mid-face region.
