Notes

Australian Museum scientist Dr Frank Koehler has uncovered a small radiation of freshwater snails on the island of Madagascar resulting in the description of new species including Madagasikara vivipara from north-western Madagascar.

Dr Kohler chose the name from the term ‘viviparous’, because females brood eggs in their mantle cavity and release crawling hatchlings whereas all other species of the group are thought to lay eggs.
