Notes

The fish had a girth of approximately 1.4 m and an estimated weight of 70 kg to 90 kg. It appeared very fresh, with clear eyes, good colour and the skin on the body largely intact. It did not seem to have been attacked by other marine animals.

Department of Primary Industries Fisheries Officer Ian Merrington was called to the beach to inspect the fish. Ian suggested that damage on the head may have resulted from the fish being stuck by a boat propeller.
