Final stage of the mummy treatment

Securing a body stocking of fine net over the entire mummy was the final step in stabilising the fragile linen wrappings.  The fine net, sourced from London, was dyed to blend in with the linen and then hand stitched around the feet and along the sides.

Not a problem, it was really satisfying work. I've just put up more details and images about the treatment in the Major treatment section of the Materials Conservation Unit web page if you'd like to know more.

Fascinating to see this clever restoration work. Don't think people ever grow out of their interest in ancient mummies. Thank you for putting up the pics.
