Notes

Next we have Georgia Fallon from Pymble Ladies College in Sydney. Georgia’s design is untitled, but we have the title for the movie that’s on show – Diehard 2! The film reel was cut into individual negatives before being sewn together in layered rows, for a feathery effect. The Superb Bird of Paradise inspired her to use film negatives (for their velvety blackness) and to add blue. See the blue bubble wrap across the top front of her dress and the headpiece made of blue plastic bottles, in reference to the irridescent blue on the bird’s chest and crown. The train is made of blue plastic bottle caps and beer lids threaded on twine. It is a moving feature, and occupies space behind her so that she affects a more bird-like profile, but it doesn’t aim to look like a tail. This train, and her shoulder pieces made of Easter show name badges and plastic bottles, best display Georgia’s overall aim to represent rather than recreate the bold and elegant looks of her inspiration.
