E078217 canoe, bark, Hunter Valley, New South Wales, Australia.

This canoe is from the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, Australia. The canoe is constructed from a single length of bark, possibly stringy bark. The bark sheet has been folded together at each end and secured with a wooden peg and bark lashings. The inside surface of the canoe is smooth while rough bark makes up the outer surface of the canoe. Canoes of this type were generally used in the inland waters of south-east Australia.
