Ink drawing of ‘Trichecus rosmarus [current name: Odobenus rosmarus] – The Walrus or Morse’ by Helena Forde (Scott) prepared for the proposed revised edition of Mammalia, recent and extinct: an elementary treatise for the use of the public schools of New South Wales by A W Scott, 1878–1883.
Mammalia was first published in 1873 as a school textbook. A new version was commissioned by the Australian Museum to be a more scientific and comprehensive catalogue of seals and whales. AW Scott was working on the manuscript at the time of his death in 1883.
