Crimson Rosella complex

These differently coloured birds are considered to belong to a single species, the Crimson Rosella (Platycercus elegans). In South Australia, red birds ('Crimson Rosella') do not contact yellow ones ('Yellow Rosella'). In the intervening area, there are isolated populations of dark orange and light orange birds ('Adelaide Rosella'). Where red and yellow birds meet in southern New South Wales, they hybridise to produce orange birds.
