Boomerang E92401

This boomerang was probably made in the 1930s in the Aboriginal Community at La Perouse, now a Sydney suburb on the north-east side of Botany Bay. The boomerang is decorated with a pictorial story, in which the emu and the kangaroo signify Australia. Aboriginal warriors face a body of water with a ship and two boats, depicting Captain Cook’s landing at Botany Bay. This historical episode was frequently used to retell the story of invasion of Aboriginal land and it is especially meaningful to the La Perouse Aboriginal Community.
