In Australia, the official standard name for the species is Black Rabbitfish. It has been called many common names including Black Spinefoot, Black Trevally, Blue-spotted Trevally, Dusky Rabbitfish, Fuscous Rabbitfish, Happy Moments, Mi Mi, Mottled Spinefoot, Pearl-spotted Spinefoot, Pearly-spotted Rabbitfish, Pin-spotted Spinefoot, Stinging Bream and West Australian Rabbitfish.
In Australia, the species occurs from south-western Western Australia, all the way around the tropical north of the country and south on the east coast to southern New South Wales.

Hi Eadsie65. Thank you for reporting your catch of this species off Bass Point. That was certainly a decent-sized fish from shallow water.
